I don’t drive much — I mean, I have my driver’s license, and a Zipcar membership but no car. I think it’s the right choice for more people — it’s about access now and then when needed, not habit and not ownership. But anyway, I’m getting off topic! (Yut thinks I’m a nut about the topic of cars.)
When I do drive, I make right turns sometimes when I need to go left, just ’cause sometimes the left is too damn hard. Well guess what? According to UPS it’s really the better way to do it.
UPS engineers found that left-hand turns were a major drag on efficiency. Turning against traffic resulted in long waits in left-hand turn lanes that wasted time and fuel, and it also led to a disproportionate number of accidents.
and! Mythbusters checked out the claims and basically agreed: “They found the UPS approach saved gas but took a bit longer”.
