Amongst canned root beers, Mug’s is better than A&W — more flavor, not so sweet, more bubbly. I should say though, that all three tasters (misa, yut, and me) prefer Coke to Pepsi. But in our defense, I found a Taster’s Choice article which agreed! Oh but one thing I want to mention, I think Hey-Song Sarsaparilla (from Taiwan, but available at Asian markets), which is similar-ish to root beer, is also pretty good, maybe better!

If you’re ever bored, check out Starcraft games (if you’re awake at 2am PST, you can watch them live if you install the GomPlayer) on GomTV.net. No, I’m not usually this big of a nerd, it’s really all pol’s fault, he’s the one who told me about this. But it is kinda fun, and I wasn’t even ever a fan of Starcraft.

It’s pumpkin season! Pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin pumpkin pumpkin, oh yes!

It’s also getting to the rainy season — we’ve already had our first drizzle of autumn. In fact, it might be drizzling right now as I type. I’m thinking seriously about buying a space heater for the bathroom. Oh and a pair of wellies, which I thought of last year but not ’til closer to the end of the rainy season, and I kept thinking the rain was gonna stop soon. Sadly, I was continually wrong. :p

My computer messed up my profile or something twice in the last two weeks! I’m probably going to reinstall Windows this weekend. Blech — maybe I’ll beg Yut to take care of it for me. :D

But still, I’m so glad it’s the weekend!

Usually when I talk about the weather, it’s cos it’s cold and rainy and I don’t like it. Well today it’s hot and sunny, and I DON’T LIKE IT! It’s in the high 90s (like 97 or 98°F or like 36 to 37°C); walking to the water cooler makes me hot and sweaty. Around noon today, Leafy called me, and as we were talking, I had to continually switch the phone from one hand to the other because the arm holding the phone up would get sweaty at the inner elbow so I had to switch arms to give the other one a chance to dry. Gross, right?! Except I’m sure my face, hair, and clothing are no better. Also, I thought I was going to faint — I was trying to walk fast from one shady area to another, not that the shade helped all that much. Gaaaaah, I won’t even be able to go home until at least an hour after dark cos the apartment is an oven right now. I could’ve probably put tea in cold water this morning and when I get home I would have lukewarm tea, not that anyone would want warm tea on a day like today. I hope this is making sense, my brain feels all fried, like one of those “this is your brain on drugs” commercials from the 80s or 90s or whenever. Blech.

That last post reminded me, I’ve been meaning to put up photos from the manicure/pedicure for 2 weeks now. Gawd I’m slow. Anyways, I went with Julie to Fusion Nails & Spa. Going with Julie was nice cos she knows whatall is going on, so she helped me pick my colors (red for my toes — I’ve gotten lots of compliments on the color and I’ve NEVER gotten compliments on my feet ever cos even I think my feet are pretty yucks, and a pale pink, almost clear, for my fingers, thanks Julie!) and recommended the special treatment with the soaking and massaging and peppermint masque and sea salt scrub and lotioning and whatnot since it was my first time. It was all lovely — dude, I totally see why people go regularly. Well, ok the part where the lady was trying to pumice my feet made me laugh and squirm, so I think that part was kind of abbreviated, but it was just as well. Also, I took photos until they started working on my fingers so I think they realized I was totally noob. Whatevs!

This is the part where I was laughing uncontrollably, which made Julie crack up. You can’t tell from this picture, so why I’m telling you, I don’t know. :p Also, I don’t know if you can tell, but my feet are pretty red from the hot soaking in the water with the jets.

Anyways, it’s been 2 weeks now and my toes still look perfect. It’s like my toenails don’t grow or something. My fingernails have grown like a millimeter or something (based on how the polish looks) and I dunno, I guess I’m harder on them. So yeah, happy. Now if the weather would just go back to that nice sunniness from just a week ago so I can wear flips everyday again, that’d be awesome. Sadly this past week has been all rainy coldness instead. But it’s winter, so I really can’t complain too much about rain after a two week reprieve.

Y’know, I thought the bad weather was done for the winter — I thought everything was all good. But no, it was just one day of reprieve. Today the rain came down hard, and I coulda sworn the wind kept changing direction, so it wasn’t even possible to point my umbrella the right way for long. Short story short, I broke it, my damn umbrella that is. It’s now an unbrella (from Un Lun Dun by China Miéville, fun book). I was walking along an hour or so after noon, and the wind just flipped it inside out and in surprise my arm was pulled backwards so the (now) unbrella was pointing behind me, and oops there was someone there holding a box (thankfully I think it was still in plastic) of chocolate who now had water coming down on her from the rain and a nice extra large stream from my umbrella too, like she’d said, “oh I’d like extra water with my rain please!” Lovely, I’m sure. I got the feeling that she didn’t blame me, but it didn’t make her day any nicer or make her any less grumpy. The splines (or what are the metal parts called?) were all bent up and the whole thing wouldn’t stay open for longer than a few seconds, less if there was any wind. So yes, lovely. Also, my feet were wet all day today again. And after the umbrella broke, my pants too, the legs all the way up, and most of my coat. I keep thinking about wellies (or galoshes!) but the moment I think I’m going to go buy a pair the rain sort of stops so then I think it’s not worth it. Also I’m a little shopped out, even for shoes — I know I know, shock and awe!

Oh yeah, and I’m taking umbrella recommendations if you have one that would fit in a large handbag that’s strong, or whatever makes a good umbrella. Or if you have a fave umbrella. Whatever, tell me about it!

Isn’t it awesome how you can expect at least a couple of weather related posts every winter, like I’m surprised by the cold and rain, AGAIN?! :D

Completely unrelated (I’m totally a tangent loving dilettante-type — is that redundant?) but dude if I ever start spilling my drink, then there’s a good chance I’m not sober cos good lord, who wastes their drink like that?!

My feet have felt damp and cold all day. The wetness just seeps in everywhere, cold and clammy. Although maybe it’s like central air, just not enough days in the year when you need it to justify it.

It’s been raining on and off all day, about 57-58°F or 13-14°C (according to Yahoo! Weather). I forgot my umbrella. Months and months of carrying around that umbrella, just in case, and today of all days, forgetting it. Hmmph!

I passed by 2 girls walking in the rain around noontime and one said to the other, “Oh my God, it’s freezing today!” and I thought, “Hello weather wimpdom, I’m home!” Cos seriously, in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) it was like -1°C and snowing and people were running around in t-shirt and jeans. Damn show-offs.

Speaking of Edmonton, today, not coincidently 4 days after I returned, my phone started giving me a “Limited Service” message. I didn’t even pay it any mind ’til I tried to make a phone call and it told me “Emergency calls only” in a dark pink warning message. Spoiled by above freezing temperatures, I tell ya.

Today was another really hot day here. Another as in it’s not the first hot day this year. Hot as in >90°F (or ~32°C) and humid. Which I know, I know, isn’t as bad as it could be, but like I’m always saying, this area just isn’t prepared for hot weather. Anyways, our apartment was completely unliveable that’s how hot it was. If you judge “hot” based on if you can stay home comfortably or not, then I think you can imagine better what I mean. :p

From like a little before noon through 9pm, we stayed out because it was like an oven — headache inducingly, enervatingly hot. We went to dim sum (what’re the good places in the East Bay nowadays? We went to Legendary Palace and it was good, but seemed way less busy than it used to be) and Oakland Chinatown for a bit, then went home to check our apartment (way too hot), then went back out to Borders which had a “Buy 3 get 1 Free” summer reading promotion (yut asked, “Can you find 4 books you want to read?” Erm…YES!!! As if he had to ask!) and hung out for like 3 hours, then came home to check (still too hot), then went to Beverages and More for some wine and beer shopping, then came home to decide what to do next. It was like 6pm by then, but still impossibly hot, so we walked back out to Starbucks and sat around for another 2+ hours, then finally got home around 9pm, by which time the apartment was okay.
