This summer/spring/whatev three new frozen yogurt places opened in Berkeley. Which was a disaster, a pretty awesome disaster, but a disaster, cos there were weeks when I had a frozen yogurt every. single. day. I know, I know, Yogurt Park has been in Berkeley forever, but the thing is, Yogurt Park serves the traditional frozen yogurt which tastes like frozen custard or soft serve, but the new yogurt places are trying to follow the PinkBerry craze, y’know, with the tart, tastes-like-yogurt frozen yogurt and with toppings. I’m not saying I don’t still go to Yogurt Park, ’cause I totally do when I’m in the mood for that sorta thing, but to me, it can get a little too sweet sometimes, almost cloying. The tart yogurt though, it’s good any ol’ time. Which is the problem.

Of the tart yogurt places, I like Yogurt Harmony on Shattuck (between Bancroft and Kittredge) — I think it’s a good balance of sweet and tart and creamy. Usually I just get a plain tart flavored yogurt with no toppings (they have other flavors of the day like lychee, peach, mango, or pomegranate, usually 4 flavors total, but it changes daily/weekly), but after I tried some mochi topping when Julie got it, I’m a convert. (She also recommends Cap’n Crunch and strawberry, which is rather good too.) Anyway, they charge like 95¢ for the first topping and $1.25 for 2 toppings, so I always get at least two toppings if I get toppings, cos that’s how I roll.

I also like Yogurt Harmony ’cause they serve their yogurt in a compostable thick paper bowl (sorta like chinet?) with a compostable corn plastic spoon, yay! They also have a frequent buyers card, like if you buy 8, you can get 1 free, or something. I think I’m on my third (maybe fourth?) card since they started the program, which you know, isn’t too bad — it’s summertime! :)

This week’s been hot, which brings frozen yogurt to mind. Well it does for me!

Wordpress 2.6.1

Wordpress 2.6.1 is out. I think this is supposed to be good news, but I’m just relieved that it’s not a security release — just bug fixes — so it’s optional! Anyways, 2.6 has been working pretty well, so unless y’all are having problems with the site (in which case, please let me know!) I think I’m going to laze outta this one. :D

Btw, I made a Links page listing some of the blogs I like, in case you’re in need of more time wasters. :)

Survey

Our phone number came up in some random survey about the election, and of course I’m more than happy to tell them my opinions! Which is the opposite of Yut so it works out rather well — the minute that Yut hears that it’s a survey he puts the phone on speaker and hands it to me. So they ask me things like what’s the most important issue in this election for me (the environment, duh!), and all sorts of other things, like if I’m a moderate or liberal or conservative, do I pay attention to the election (a lot? somewhat? not at all?). And it finally gets to the end where they’re basically not even asking about issues anymore, they’re just asking demographic information, like race and stuff. And then the poor guy asks about our annual household income, listing things like under $15,000, yadayada, and so I pick a range and tell the surveying person, that’s it! But one glance at Yut, and I correct myself, “Hold on a sec, I think I’m wrong cos he’s making the craziest face!” So yeah, it turns out I have no idea what we make in a year. And it’s the same thing when he asked if we felt like we were getting ahead or falling behind or staying the same - I’m just not too sure, so I hem and haw and finally tell him about the same. But ok, maybe I’m a time waster for them, but at least I’m nice about the whole thing, not that it took more than 15 minutes even with my indecision.

Ant Dream

I woke up this morning cos of a weird dream. I mean, I actually have no idea what the dream was about, but the part that woke me up was this crazy swarm of ants crawling all over someone’s jacket. No idea how the ants fit into the dream, but blech! But also, I woke up with the unsettling feeling that I’d dreamed about crazy swarms of ants before. I think it’s cos once I left some hard candy in my backpack too long — the wrapper fell off, and I didn’t realize it was there, and the ants came in (cos they do that in the rainy season) and found it and went crazy! So I tried to brush them off, but ants are persistent and there’s a million of them and one of me, and I probably hardly count as one since I’m squeamish about bugs, and so finally I had to go wash my backpack, which probably killed a lot of them (although I think I’ve read that ants are ok swimmers). Which makes me wonder if my dreams are an expression of guilt or if they’re an expression of my fear and squicked-out-ness. Which is a lot to wonder on a Sunday morning, so I went back to sleep ’til past noon.

Day’s nice and sunny, pretty much done with work, and I don’t know why, but I’ve a case of the blahs — don’t know how to describe it — don’t feel like doing anything, didn’t get much accomplished, &c&c. I don’t even feel like eating anything right now, if you can believe it! Come to think of it, I probably need a nap — if it’s not eating, then sleeping’ll cure whatever ails! And come to think of it, Yut and I have been staying up late playing Dr. Mario lately cos I have to play against him until I beat him once, then we can move on to the cooperative stuff. :)

Yesterday I was in Maryland and it was 90 degrees and humid and I wore a t-shirt and sweated rivulets. Today I’m in the Bay Area and it’s more like 60 something and I’m wearing a coat. If I come down with something, I guess I’ll know why.

Updating

OMG, they totally did! It hasn’t been a month, and now there’s Wordpress 2.6! I know that continuously updating software to fix security flaws is actually a good thing, but it’s a pain! And also, after my previous post, I discovered a user I didn’t create in the users table in my database. So… I felt like I still had stuff to do and I didn’t feel good about posting until I fixed it, but I was lazy. And now I’m glad I didn’t cos I had to update to 2.6 anyways, so at least I did it together.

So… I think it’s pretty much cleaned up now, but I have to re-do all of my prettifying and figure out what plugins I want to use now. I’m too tired! And I know that most people thing that dark text on light background is best, but this default theme is way too glarey! Or I’m getting old. Or something. Gaaaaah, there needs to be 1 button upgrades, even easier than it is now! And I’m ranting but it’s my blog and it really was annoying, SO THERE! :p
