Things Stay the Same

I forgot to mention this yesterday ’cause I was so busy whining about school: yesterday I wore my shirt inside out for the whole morning! I haven’t done that since college when I was late for an exam once. But I have reason to hope that no one noticed — I had lunch with Yut and when I told him later that my shirt was inside out, he said, “You did?!” Oh yes! :D

It’s that time again!

Whine-about-school-time that is. Yes, after 1 semester off, I am back. This time, it’s Critical Thinking, which is an English class. Which means essays! OMG! 5 of them! 5 pages each! And 4 short reaction papers! 1.5-2 pages each! Geeeezus, what did I get myself into?! The only good thing is that the class is only 6 weeks long. Only that means 1 essay per week, which is ludicrous, possibly even ludicrisp (a la Mike Tyson).

Today is June 14th, who knew.

I almost missed lunch today cos I have no sense of time… or date or whatever. One of my managers is retiring soon (43 years!!!) so there was a special retirement luncheon, and I knew that June 14th was the date, no problem. Manager’s retirement lunch = June 14th in my head. But as usual, I had no idea that TODAY is June 14th. So I didn’t know until I saw a reminder email at 11:30, “Reminding you that the retirement luncheon is today at 1pm.” I like the guy who’s gonna be retiring. And I like nice food and wine in the middle of the day. So whew. :)

Mundanity

KneeI cut my nails last night. They were prettily long (if I do say so myself), but as someone who has scratched herself awake in the middle of the night, complete with pain, blood, and scarring), well I couldn’t keep ‘em. FingernailExcept I cut one of them too short, and it’s been bothering me a lot! Not enough nail, too sensitive. Except I think my threshold is weird cos Yut wasn’t impressed at all when I told him. He cuts (or bites:p) his nails down to the quick, so my nail seemed fine to him. But doooood, I’ve been feeling it all day! Yuck!

Agility: 0

misa and neb came by yesterday, and after lunch we went bicycle browsing, cos I’m thinking about getting one. We went to the Missing Link Bicycle Cooperative where they tried to find a bike that would fit me. I haven’t ridden in years (maybe up to 20), so I’m sort of intimidated by bike riding, so I wanted a bike which could be adjusted so that my feet would touch the ground pretty easily when I’m on the seat, which isn’t the right fit at all, but I think it’d be nicer to start out with it that way. (That was a piss poor sentence!) Anyhows, we did manage to get one adjusted so that I could touch the ground on tiptoes when I’m on the seat, so I tried it out. misa tried out a bike, too. She’s thinking about getting a folding bike, but they didn’t have any there.

Trying Out Some Bikes

It’s not like my balance is great in a general sense, so starting out and stopping made me nervous — I guess you can’t forget how to ride a bicycle, but you can get wildly out of practice. Yeah, I sucked! Everyone rode circles around me! I don’t know how to shift gears! But I felt like I got better, so hope is not lost — I dunno I’m gonna go back sometime and try some other bikes and we’ll see. :p

Sartorial

It’s fun visiting CT cos she lets me go through her drawers. Sometimes I pick out something that she hasn’t worn in a while and then she says I can have it. OH YES! If anyone watches America’s Next Top Model (what? It’s a guilty pleasure. Or okay, if you read the recap on fourfour), it’s just exactly like Dionne freeloading through her go-sees except without the walking and the modeling and the running around and the freaking out. Well but totally with the getting free clothes part. Sadly she’s like 5 sizes smaller than me, so the actual selection is limited.

But she keeps letting me root through her drawers and borrow things even though every trip I stain something. This time it was soy sauce on a white linen shirt. Oops. Truly it’s a talent. I’d just like to point out that I went with her to both Trader Joe’s and Costco in the span of ONE DAY!!! :p

Oh, this is unrelated but we’ve been watching So You Think You Can Dance again. It’s good fun! :)

Bleach Watching

Y’know what I thought was funny? I took home some Bleach episodes for CT to watch, and I thought when she got done with ‘em she could pass them on to the rest of the family. But it turns out they’re all bigger anime nerds than me; 3 of them already watch it, and they’re all caught up. So CT and K are actually the only holdouts! Go fig.

Gluttony.

First I ate dinner, a lot of it. Then we washed up a bunch of cherries and decided to try to catch up on Lost. But doooooood, I ate waaaaaay too many cherries. And now my stomach hurts so bad, and I couldn’t concentrate on Lost, and gawd, I’m a moron.

Bad Maths

A colleague called me to confirm some numbers with her before a meeting, just some simple multiplication, easy arithmetic stuffs. I was in line so I had to do it in my head, so I made mistakes and said, “uh, hold on a sec” and “wait, that was wrong” a bit. Then I heard a snort from behind me in line. When I turned around, an older lady was smiling. Oops! I smiled sheepishly in return.

1 Quick Note

Got back yesterday, probably I have lots to say, but later. Except for 1 thing: the Barnes & Noble on Shattuck is closing!!! Whoa. That’s 2 bookstores that I can think of off the top of my head this year. (The other was Cody’s on Telegraph.) I think at least part of the reason for both closures was the lease, but dude, what’s going on?! Bookstore closings do not seem like a good sign to me! :P
