Take That!

Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations Pre-Order Plushy
We pre-ordered Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations (at least partially cos there was a plushy!), and it came today! Oh yes!!! :) But we’re saving it for tonight, before bed, cos for some strange reason, playing Phoenix Wright is always fun, but always makes me fall asleep.

Puffy Pink

I can’t understand how people can keep on mentioning Star Trek movies (via kottke), but never mention the ones with Patrick Stewart, who was awesome and HAWT as Jean-Luc Picard. Boo.

Comparison

by mim

I dunno if all that many people are interested, but I thought a comparison might be interesting. I think I could’ve bought a Dell or HP or whatever with similar parts (maybe a bit less RAM, a bit better processor, but with a DVD burner and whatnots) for about $600 or so (assuming no tax). When we bought the parts for my computer, we spent a bit over that, but used my old case and CD burner. Computer and computer part prices change pretty fast so this wouldn’t be the exact same price today, but anyhows, for comparison’s sake:

Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop Processor E6400: $161.49
ASUS P5KPL-VM Motherboard
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) (-$40 rebate)
Western Digital 320gb SATA hard drive (all four ordered together): $301.94
MSI GeForce 8600GT PCIe Video Card: $115.68
Corsair HX Series 520W Power Supply (-$20 rebate): $117.34
Total: $636.44

So the company-built computer would’ve been cheaper, by a hair! But only cos I had my old case, otherwise the cost of a new case would make building one more expensive for sure. Still, I think that it’s definitely easy to pick different pieces and build a computer for around $500. But besides price, buying a pre-made computer from some company means that everything’s new and the operating system is installed and everything, and there’s someone to call if there’s a problem for a year at least. On the other hand, by building it ourselves, I got to choose a yellow motherboard, RAM with black and purple heat shields, and a red video card. SO THERE!!!

To be perfectly truthful, I never look at the computer cos it sits under my desk, so I don’t use my see through side panel or look at the colors of the parts inside. At all. So I’m not sure I’m necessarily recommending this route. :P

New!

by mim

It started cos I needed more RAM. And a new video card. And probably a new processor. &c&c!
old computer
There it is, the old computer.

I know we coulda bought a whole new computer from Dell or HP or whatever, probably for as cheap/cheaper, and it’s not like I overclock or anything. But I thought since I could keep some of my parts it would be fine. And more interesting. So at first it was going to be processor, heatsink and fan, motherboard, graphics card, and RAM. Then I decided I needed a new harddrive cos the motherboard doesn’t have that many PATA connections. Then when we put it together, the old power supply didn’t have all the connections needed, so we had to get a new power supply. Which is practically everything! At least I kept my old case and some drives. But everything finally came all together, and it’s running beautifully now!

Nobel!

by mim

Isn’t it funny how instead of trying to argue that global warming isn’t happening, now the climate change/global warming skeptics are trying to argue that there were errors in “An Inconvenient Truth,” and things aren’t that dire. Really? So if whole cities aren’t underwater then we don’t have a problem?! And anyways, a lot of the points are nitpicky. Gore claimed that hurricanes will get stronger as an effect of global warming, not that global warming was the direct cause of Hurricane Katrina. And the Ocean Conveyor won’t stop, it’s just going to slow down. Etc.

Anyways! Congratulations to Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Recommendable

The “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” lecture from Professor Randy Pausch, who has been diagnosed with metastasized cancer, was very moving (via Gene Weingarten’s chat and churumuri). Well worth the time. Although why’d he have to dog on Berkeley?! :P

First 8 minutes or so are introductions if you wish to skip those.

Little Ramekin of Awesome

Corn Creme Brulee
It looks unprepossessing enough — just like any other crème brûlée: available everywhere, delicious when done right, sometimes disappointing. But this one has the delicious flavor of sweet, sweet corn, and it’s amazing. I wish photos could be scratch and sniff. Or better yet lickable. I don’t know why no one’s ever thought of this before, seriously. Or at least not in my experience. I’ve been to downtown three times this month on the basis of that crème brûlée, dragging misa with me twice (not that it required much dragging, the mere mention of “it haz corn flavorz” was enough). So yeah, if you’re in the area, highly recommended! :D

Rainbow

by mim

We got Brain Age 2, and registered it with Nintendo and today, the rainbow styluses came! Very prettily packaged too!
Rainbow Styluses

Although I must say, we probably would’ve bought the game even without the styluses. But, bonus! There’s a DS to DS mode now, but the thing is, the games that are available are kind of limited. Still fun though. :)

hunger

by mim

Dude, I was gonna talk (ramble, whatever) about something but I totally forgot. It’s cos I’m hungry! But I don’t know what I wanna eat, I’m indecisive.

Speaking of hunger though, the other day I was meeting misa for lunch, and I got to the place a little faster than she did, so I was waiting and looking down the (wrong) street for her when I realized I was kinda rubbing my belly thinking about what I was gonna eat! In public! Gah! Who does that!?

It’s like the woman who was auditioning for Beauty and the Geek and she kept unconsciously laughing nervously and it was kind of not so good.

Check around 8:25 into the clip.

Fall Season is BACK!

by mim

Okay, so technically I don’t have time to watch as much TV as I do, but somehow, I manage. (I know, you’re all so proud.) So far this week, I’ve watched Beauty and the Geek (fun!) and of course America’s Next Top Model. You know what that means! Come Monday, fourfour will have the recap! YESSS! The recap is an integral part of the watching, in case you were wondering.

But you know what’s the freakiest thing? I had a weird dream about Heroes this week too. I don’t remember the dream but I definitely remember it was about Heroes cos I woke up long enough to tell Yut. It’s premiering next week, so that must be why. Also cos I have excellent taste in TV. :P
