Hottest Party
West Virginia is planning to put Dance Dance Revolution in schools (via Big Fat Deal) to help combat childhood obesity. I love it, they’re gonna be setting up an arcade at school! I mean, I’m imagining that they’re getting the big arcade version of the game, not a bunch of consoles and soft pads. But you know, they should really consider getting a bunch of Wiis instead. Cos we already know that Wii Sports can be a fitness regimen and now Konami has announced DDR: Hottest Party for the Wii, only you use the dance pad and the wiimote and nunchuk. Take that, all the people who keep saying video games are a useless waste of time. =)
Deathly Hallows
I already know where I’m gonna be at midnight on the 21st of July (Friday night/Saturday wee hours of the morning): at The Other Change of Hobbit. Yup, already pre-ordered Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It’s the seventh and last book, and I’m pretty excited. Good thing about a book store, no artificial shortages and no long waits in line. =)
Unwell
It started with a cold with all this congestion and runny nose and coughing and fever. I was disgusting! I guess I shoulda taken more decongestants or something because I got a sinus infection. Well okay, I went for a week thinking it was gonna cure itself cos that’s what colds do, so I didn’t actually know it was a sinus infection. Although I did think it might be sinus-related cos the whole right side of my face hurt, but especially my teeth! It was like all the teeth on the right side of my face were gonna fall off and take part of my face with them. Then I started to complain about the pain to everyone (pleasant conversation fodder, if I do say so myself). misa finally looked up the symptoms on the internet for me, which I dunno why I didn’t do it myself except maybe I’m a little leery of looking up medical things on the web. Also I was having these horrible visions of comparing fake teeth with my dad, and sometimes I “deal” with those kinds of bad thoughts by strictly avoiding the situation. :} Anyhows, I finally went to see my doctor cos the all the web pages recommended antibiotics for sinus infection and it’d been going on for a while. Btw, I hate antibiotics cos there’s always these side effects like vomiting or diarrhea, which “doesn’t require medical attention”, but if it’s severe diarrhea it could be <something horrible and unpronounceable!> which is life threatening. I don’t want to think about the severity of diarrhea!!! Also taking antibiotics can cause yeast infections (or thrush is what they call it if it’s non-vaginal). I hate yeast infections. Then last week as I was finishing up with the antibiotics, I relapsed back to a milder form of the congestion and the coughing and the runny nose. Gawd it’s like the cold that won’t stop. I dunno what’s going on this year, cos I know there are more severe colds, but this one just seems to go on forever.
I know it’s not just me, this cold has gone on and on for a lot of people. misa’s been sick, a bunch of my co-workers (one of them threw out her back from coughing so hard), even Yut stayed sick for a couple of weeks and usually he gets well in a day! Still, this is some kind of a personal record. So far in 2007, I have been more or less sick 100% of the time. But today is the last day of January, and I’m hopeful it’ll be a new start. Or something like that.
DotA
We played a lot of DotA this weekend cos Cliff’s getting back to playing more, and now CT’s all into it too. Yup, it’s true, even though we spent most of the time playing Rayman all through the winter holiday season, we also installed Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the expansion, The Frozen Throne on her computer. Then, after we left and took our Wii, we called her up to try out DotA with her, cos we thought she’d like it. Which she does! (We’re insidious that way.) =)
Tissue: A Product Comparison
Since we’ve gone through over a box of tissues in a week or so, I thought I’d share this: Green Forest tissue is better than Seventh Generation tissue
. Not only is the Green Forest tissue softer than the Seven Generation stuff, it’s got a higher percentage of post-consumer recycled paper (both 100% recycled paper, but 40% post-consumer for Green Forest, 20% for the Seven Generation), so it’s better in every way. And btw, since I’ve managed to get Yut sick too, we did a side by side product comparison and we were both in agreement about the superiority of the Green Forest; that’s 100% in favor!
I’ve been trying to take advantage of our colds (I managed to find a bright side, harhar) by testing out more brands of tissue with recycled fiber but we’ve had a really tough time finding these brands. We got the Green Forest at Berkeley Bowl and the Seventh Generation at Long’s Drugs, but Target has NOTHING and neither does Walgreens. I mean, not one brand of tissue with recycled paper content of any kind. Is it just the local Target and Walgreens or is this some kind of bad-Kimberly-Clark-tissues-only at every store in the country policy? Hmmph!

Recommendables
I’ve uploaded a bunch of photos from the break. If it seems like all we did was eat, play wii, play cards, and play Scrabble, then you got a pretty accurate view of the trip. =) Hope everyone had a nice holiday season.
I’m not much of one for resolutions cos they always seem sort of awful, (or in my case, too easy: read more books! harhar) so I’m going to just do a quick retrospective for the year, which will probably be inaccurate cos my memory is so poor. Feel free to add recommendables of your own, although I guess that’s duh. :))
- Recommendables for 2006
- best purchase of the year: Wii! So excellent!
- movie: Little Miss Sunshine, as far as I remember
- new tv show: Heros
- books: I can’t remember what I read this year and what I read previously, so this is too hard.
- restaurants: I was gonna try and pick one, but it’s too hard! Chez Panisse and Medicine EatStation were the two best in terms of swanky dining. Michael Mina was really good, too, except my fish entree was just a tad dry, which is nitpicking except at a swanks place like that I expect more. But every other thing was awesome. And Sea Salt is our new fave local place. Lots of previous recommendable places are still recommendable, I’m just trying to keep it down to new for this year.
- Wii games: Rayman: Raving Rabbids, Wii Sports, and Zelda: Twilight Princess probably got the most gameplay so far, then Trauma Center: Second Opinion. Monkey Ball has been sort of a disappointment; although the actual game is better, part of the joy of Monkey Ball was always the minigames, which just don’t feel as well done.
- DS games: Pheonix Wright lately for me.
- applications/web stuff: wordpress (so easy, so not crash-prone), feedable (everything has a feed and it’s way too hard to keep up without a reader), and meebo (im anywhere)
- cosmetic/beauty type stuffs: Lorac sparkly eyeshadow/liner, good stuff. And hair straightener, for the days when my hair is shall we say too 3D for my taste. This is probably old news, but somehow I totally missed out on discovering the possibilities of a hair straightener for years.
- feminine product: the menstrual cup! I find tampons way uncomfortable in comparison, especially for the lighter days.
- gadget: none! I didn’t get a new gadget this year! (Am the picture of restraint, clearly.)
And that’s all I can think of for now. Oh except I have one unrecommendable, which is Earth First toilet paper, too chafy. :P
Happy New Year, everyone!
