Random Happenings from Today

by mim

Someone mentioned to me that one of the desks was missing a keyboard, which made me think someone took it. Well, the keyboard really was missing, but so was the computer, cos stuff had been moved around a bit and the computer wasn’t back yet. The monitor was already on the desk, and so was the mouse. It made me wonder if I set up some workstations with just a monitor, keyboard, and mouse if the first question I’d get would be about the missing computer or the monitor has no power:p

I walked by two different co-workers in the space of an hour, and both times I didn’t realize I’d walked by someone I knew til they said, “Hey!” Talk about oblivious:p I think I was looking at the ground again.

Last thing! CT and a co-worker both complained to me about how tired they were cos they’d stayed up watching Korean soap operas! Teeheehee:) Them shows are popular:p

New Glasses

by mim

When I first looked at glasses late last year, I really wanted this rimless hingeless pair from Silhouette which were super light and cute in a pinkish color (I think model 7473 if you are curious), but they were backordered, so I canceled the order and added money to my Healthcare Reimbursement Account (or Flexible Spending Account some places call it?). But when I went back, I was working with another optician who basically said with my prescription he didn’t think rimless was a good idea at all — I’m -6.25 in one eye and -6.75 in the other. The first optician had said it was okay, but wasn’t very enthusiastic either. So alas, I had to give up that idea.

Anyhows, so I went around and tried on a bunch of glasses. And finally I tried this pair from ProDesign on and they were different! And not boring. So that’s that:) I finally picked ‘em up last week. (I included the case in the picture cos dude, it’s a cool case! It opens on both sides like a cryogenic chamber or something. I’m easily impressed:p)

I did realize afterwards though, the colors are eerily similar to the office chairs at work:D

Year of the Dog

by mim

It’s the start of the new year tomorrow. Or I suppose, today by now in the east coast. So happy New Year:) Hope it’s a good one.

Sin Nian Kwai Le, Gong Si Fa Tsai!

(That’s my random transliteration. In Hanyu Pinyin it would be xin nian kuai le, gong xi fa cai, I think, but honestly, that’s hard to pronounce.)

No TV, But Class Today

by mim

So I did drop my Native American history class. I mean, I’m pretty woefully ignorant about both, but the religion class seems sort of especially important in this day and age. Although I am possibly showing my biases.

But one thing that I didn’t consider when I first signed up for class is TV. Doood, Thursday there isn’t too much TV so it’s prefectly fine. But Wednesday? Wednesday is HORRIFICally full of TV. There’s American Idol (good schadenfreude fun, especially right now during the winnowing process), Lost (really good stuff! And I like to watch it live, somehow it’s better than saving it for later), and now, I’ve added Project Runway to the line up. Damn Martin Luther King Day and Bravo and all day Project Runway marathon!!!

It’s a really good show, actually:) It’s basically a bunch of designers, and they’re given weekly projects and they have to finish the garments by a certain time and then they’re judged. I learned that that weird sewing machine with the weird needle is an overlock machine! And evidently, it’s really good for stretch fabrics. But it’s not really the point of the show to teach about clothes making. That was just me from a lifetime around my mum’s talent with the needle and me with ten thumbs. But I digress! The show is more about catty designers and other fun stuff:) And at the end Heidi Klum says, “auf wiedersehen” to the contestant who’s out and you’d think I would hate her, I mean she was pregnant when this season got filmed but it looks like she put NO WEIGHT except her baby’s weight. It’s disgusting. But eh, I don’t hate her, somehow. I hate the fact that she can be that pregnant and look like that, but still, the show is good fun, and she’s got a cute accent:)

Cell Phone

by mim

Well, so I broke my cell phone like a week and a half ago. It was a Motorola something or other. I’ll update with the model if I can find the information. It was a sucky sucky phone which I wouldn’t recommend for anyone. But it’s also old which means that probably not too many people are even considering it.
Motorola something or other

Which I wouldn’t have thought was a big deal, except I’m pretty used to having one and I use it at work so it turned out to be pretty damn inconvenient.

Today, I finally finally picked up my new phone. It’s a Samsung SGH-D600E.

Ain’t it cute? :)

Update 26 Jan: I finally looked up what the old phone is. It’s a Motorola T730. Did I mention my underwhelment with this phone? Well I was completely underwhelmed:p

Went Out! No, for real.

by mim

We went to Bacar with Julie and Al tonight. Well I suppose last night, now.
Bacar SF

Of course we started with drinks cos dood, it’s Friday, and even though we had MLK Day off (well except for poor Julie) it’s been a long week!

Then oysters. Lots and lots of oysters! Have I mentioned how I love oysters? Raw mostly — sometimes cooked can be good, but raw is always good.
Oysters

For entree I got mesquite grilled hawaiian big eye tuna, which was really good, but I would say not too difficult to get as good elsewhere. But if they have seared tuna in the first place.
Tuna Top

Al got the same thing I did. Julie got this awesome mesquite grilled painted hills rib eye steak. I know, you’re thinking steak, eh, but seriously, it was perfect and ever so delicious. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a good picture of it.

Yut got pan roasted florida pink prawns, which he really liked, but I don’t think he was particularly full afterwards. I should point out that he hadn’t eaten much all day:p
Prawns

So the food was all pretty good, but service was more lackluster. First when we got there, the bar area was still serving happy hour (which is a really good deal — half priced drinks and like $1 oysters, supposedly), so we waited forever for our cocktails. When we got them, they were good though! Especially Julie’s ‘Pretty in Pink’. The food came ok time-wise, but our server wasn’t around inbetween at all. Normally, I’m not one who really wants the waiter around asking me how I am when I’m chewing, but at the same time, I don’t want to be waiting forever. And if my drink is empty, then maybe when you drop off one course or pick up another, ask if I want something else. I dunno, I’ve never been a waiter, maybe it’s hard, but we finally asked another waiter who happened to pause near our table for help. The other waiter recommended a glass of riesling (Mantlerhof ‘Zehetnerin’ Gedersdorf, Kremstal, Austria 2003) to go with dinner and it was ever so so delicious. He seemed like he really knew wine cos he helped with recommendation very fast indeed. Julie said that Bacar is known for having a good wine list. I think she said it, at least:)

After dinner, we went to EZ5 (bar) and had some cocksuckers and a flaming lemon drop, and some other drinks. Yut and I were both definitely buzzed, but Julie and Al were COMPLETELY UNAFFECTED!!! Geesh. We’re lightweights! :p

Anyhows now I’m home and I’ve been drinking water but at this point I feel uncomfortable. Some combination of alcohol and overly-full-of-water. Oh well it was lots of fun:)

Classes

by mim

This semester, I signed up for two classes: History of Native American Thought and Literature and Religions of the World. I figured, I’d go to both classes and pick the one with the better teacher, more interesting subject, and less writing, or whichever combination was the most palatable. Well having been to both now, I think I like the History teacher a little better, although this is of course based on one class, both subjects are interesting, but dooood, there is waaaaaay waaaaaay less writing in the Religions class. So I think I’m going to drop the other one. Yeah, I know, it’s a semi-lame way of picking a class. But honestly, I’m not a writer. Some people talk about how much they love writing in class, and it boggles the mind. Geesh.

Moving

by mim

Well okay, so I was gonna try and play with it more, but eh, how do I decide when I’m “done?” Plus I don’t know how to do anything so I’m slow. Really slooooow. So I think I’ll just start posting new entries over at http://nothingedifying.com and leave this up as archives. Maybe if the server goes down or something, I’ll post up here:) But it oughtn’t.

I decided to host with A Small Orange cos I liked the name and the logo (it’s an orange:p). I also decided to install typo cos I liked the live search function and I liked the general look of it. But now that it’s running, I feel like it’s slow. I dunno why. Maybe I did something wrong when I installed it, I dunno. It’s entirely possible cos I basically didn’t know what I was doing:p If you have suggestions about this (or anything else) please please email me!!!

But yeah, change your bookmarks/feed readers over please! And thanks for reading:)

Trying Out Typo

by mim

Hello?
